Cold Aisle Containment System 

As the majority of servers sold today require air as the cooling medium, it is essential that any Data Centre design ensure that each and every server location be provided with the correct volume, temperature and humidity of air.

The physical layout of the server racks in the new data centre use the Hot/Cold Aisle principle and are perpendicular to the CRAC (Computer Room Air-Conditioning) units. All under-floor obstructions i.e.: cable trays, should be removed.

Following these design principles enables Cantono to reduce local hot spots, improve server densities and ensure faster delivery.

Cold Aisle containment, which is a fundamental feature of Cantono’s new data centre architecture, ensures that cold air being brought does not mix with hot air exiting. Only the area in the immediate vicinity of the racks is subjected to cool air, removing the need to cool the entire building.

IBM’s pod architecture ensures that cold air is channelled to the areas where it is most needed, achieving energy savings of c. 30 per cent, from which Cantono's customers will directly benefit.
